Charts

Access

  • press C
  • click the Chart button in the Stock Tools section of the Toolbar
  • or select the Chart option in the Tools menu

Data availability

10 years of historical end of day data and the most recent 90 days of intraday data is available to be plotted in charts.

The simplest way to navigate around a chart is by using the mouse to change the focus and range of the displayed chart. Keyboard shortcuts can also be used.

When the chart is not showing the most recent bar an arrow icon appears in the bottom right hand side of the chart. Click the arrow to change the chart to display the latest bar on the right hand side.

Drawings

Drawings can be added to any chart.

5 drawing types are available

  • Trend
  • Price
  • Box
  • Time
  • Point

To add a new drawing, you can either select the drawing type in the Drawing section of the Chart Tools or use the shortcut key +. Press + multiple times to cycle through the drawing types. The new drawing will initially appear in the center of the chart.

To reposition a drawing, click and drag it. To resize, drag from the edges or corners.

The active drawing is indicated by diamonds on its points. When a drawing is active, only the drawing-related settings will be displayed in the Chart Tools. To deactivate a drawing, click anywhere on the chart or press the Escape key.

To remove a drawing, first make it active by clicking on it, then press the DELETE key.

New drawings are assigned a contrasting color, but you can easily change the color by selecting an alternative one from the color swatch in the Drawings settings of the Chart tool. Text labels can also be applied to provide context.

If you add a drawing to an intraday chart, it will automatically appear on all intraday charts. You can also choose to have a drawing appear on End of Day charts (and vice versa,) by selecting End of Day in the Show on settings.
Drawings can also be set to display in the Depth and Nav Charts.

To locate all drawings on a chart click the Find button in the Drawing settings. This will temporarily expand the chart range to show all current drawings. Use the Next button to cycle through each drawing.

You can duplicate a drawing using the standard copy/paste shortcut keys. Ctrl C to copy, Ctrl V to paste.

To toggle the display of all drawings, on all charts, press Ctrl D.

Drawing Statistics

Price statistics can be displayed for any drawing added to the chart.

Statistics are calculated using the price levels at the points of the drawing. The points are indicated by diamonds are are normally displayed on the ends of the drawing.

  • Last - the last price of the bar at the right hand point
  • Change - the change in price between the left and right point
  • % Change - the change % in price between the left and right point
  • Low/High - the high and low prices between the two points
  • Volume - the aggregated volume between the two points
  • Bar Count - the number of bars between the two points
  • Period - the elapsed time between the two points
  • From/To - the start and end timestamps for the two points

Tips

Holding Ctrl and hovering over the chart will display the crosshairs and legends on the chart.

You can enter dates and times directly to set the Chart start date/time. Press Space, type in a time/date, e.g. 3 Jan 2020, and press Enter.

The Nav chart plots the share price of the stock for the selected period. Click the period buttons below the chart to alter the displayed period.

The Nav chart highlights the current range displayed in the main chart. Click and drag the highlight area to alter the chart range.

The Nav chart can be expanded to take the full width of the controls by clicking the arrows in the top right corner. Click the arrows again to unexpand

Period

The available periods depends on the type of chart selected, Intraday or End of Day.

Sub 1 minute periods are only available for Intraday charts with a range less than 1 day.

Per x minutes, per x hourly and AM/PM periods are only available for Intraday charts.

Daily, Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly and Quarterly periods are only available in End of Day charts.

Alerts

You can set price levels and be alerted via the Alert ticker when these are met.

The set price levels are highlighted in the chart with a pink line. A dashed pink line shows the alert is active. A solid pink line shows the alert has triggered.

If an alert has triggered, and therefore no longer being monitored, the price entry box will have a pink border.
